A Scientific Seminar Titled "Economics of Agricultural Waste Recycling" at the Faculty of Agriculture

The Agricultural Economics and Social Sciences Program, under the supervision of the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at the Faculty of Agriculture, held a scientific seminar titled "Economics of Agricultural Waste Recycling" on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University.

The seminar was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ali Sheta, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. Dr. Metwally Mohamed Abu Sarea, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development. The seminar was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Dayem, Head of the Agricultural Economics Department, and Prof. Dr. Rabab Wadee Ghazy, Head of the Agricultural Extension and Rural Community Department.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sheta, Dean of the Faculty, opened the seminar in the presence of Prof. Dr. Saleh Saada, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Metwally Abu Sarea, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Walid Nassar, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, in addition to faculty members, teaching assistants, postgraduate students, and third- and fourth-year students from the Agricultural Economics and Social Sciences programs.

The seminar began with the national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by student Mohamed Aqeel. The event officially kicked off with a speech by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Dayem, the seminar coordinator. This was followed by a speech from Prof. Dr. Metwally Mohamed Abu Sarea, who spoke about the collaborative relationship between the Faculty of Agriculture and the local community.

Then, Eng. Abdel Hamid El-Shabouri, Head of the East Delta Region of the Egyptian Agricultural Bank, delivered a speech, followed by Eng. Mohamed El-Sayed Ali, Undersecretary and Director of the Directorate of Agriculture in Dakahlia, who spoke about agricultural waste from a practical and aspirational perspective. Finally, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ali Mohamed Sheta, Professor of Agricultural Economics and Dean of the Faculty, addressed the role of agricultural faculties in managing agricultural waste.

Seminar themes included the following topics:

  • Sustainable management of agricultural waste in light of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, presented by Prof. Dr. Essam El-Baaly (Professor of Agricultural Extension – Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University – Director of the Environmental Risk Awareness and Management Center / Central Delta Development Center)

  • Toward Zero Waste: A Strategy for Achieving Sustainable Development, presented by Prof. Dr. Fawzi El-Eisawy (Professor at the Desert Research Center – Director of the Open Dialogue on Climate Change Post-COP27 – Carbon Footprint and Sustainable Development Consultant)

  • Environmental Policies for Agricultural Waste and a Comprehensive Overview of the Waste Law, presented by Dr. Dalia Nabil Suleiman (Director of Waste Management at the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency)

  • Capacity-Building Initiative for Stakeholders in Facing Environmental Risks in the Delta Governorates, presented by Prof. Dr. Yehia Zahran (Professor of Agricultural Extension, Faculty of Agriculture – Mansoura University)

At the end of the seminar, an open discussion was held, followed by the presentation of recommendations. The faculty administration also distributed certificates of appreciation and honorary shields.
