Professor El-Melegi, the Vice- president for Community Service and Environment Development received a team of researchers from the Faculty 

of Engineering, Mansoura University; the purpose of the meeting was the presentation of an ambitious research project to manufacture a 2.5 KW unit of solar energy for domestic use with 30% of the cost of its imported counterpart. Dr. Saad Iskander, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Head of the research team, explained that some of the components of the unit like the inverter and charge controller can be produced as efficiently as its American counterpart with 30% of the cost.

      The unit is sufficient to light a small-sized apartment. It can be used in distant areas and camps. The team aims at the production of this unit commercially in order to spread the culture of the use of solar energy as an alternative energy source necessitated by the decontrol of the price rate of electricity and the tendency to use other sources of energy. The team hopes to cooperate with the Egyptian companies & factories of electrical appliances in manufacturing, developing and producing this unit and other units of greater capabilities
