Launching of an Awareness Initiative Entitled: "Combating Violence Against Children (A Societal Responsibility... Prospects for Protection)"
The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Early Childhood Education organized, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, an awareness seminar under the patronage of:
Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of the University,
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.
Led by:
Prof. Dr. Sahar Tawfiq Naseem, Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education and Chair of the University's Community Awareness Committee,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samah Ramadan Khamis, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Coordinator of the University's Community Awareness Committee.
Speakers at the seminar:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soha Abdel Wahab Bakr, Assistant Professor of Child Psychology,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samah Ramadan Khamis, Assistant Professor of Child Education Fundamentals.
The seminar commenced with a speech by Prof. Dr. Sahar Tawfiq Naseem, Professor of Child Curriculum, where she emphasized the significance of the seminar’s topic in addressing the increasing waves of behavioral deviations, especially violence against children. She highlighted the faculty's and the Community Service Sector's role in spreading awareness about child-rearing issues within the Egyptian society.
She also announced the launch of specialized training courses in this field, offered as a free grant for the first time to the faculty's students, aiming to motivate them to acquire this essential knowledge.
Following that, both Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samah Ramadan Khamis and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soha Abdel Wahab Bakr discussed the issue from the perspectives of child psychology and educational fundamentals that contribute to addressing this problem.
The seminar revolved around various topics, including:

The different types of violence against children, especially physical and psychological violence, and their diverse impacts on children's mental health.

Methods to combat violence against children and the role of community awareness in reducing it by:

Spreading correct information about the forms and types of violence.

Emphasizing the importance of minimizing violence within the family and surrounding community.

Paying attention to children and following up on them regularly and appropriately.

Developing specialized strategies for each type of violence tailored to the specific institution.

The necessity of conducting media campaigns and periodic awareness programs through television and social media to highlight these issues.

Providing timely assistance to children in need.

How to prevent violence against children by empowering the children themselves, by:

Avoiding constant blame directed at children.

Avoiding exerting undue pressures and tensions upon them.

Finally, the speakers stressed the importance of:

The collaboration of all educational and media institutions to combat violence against children in Egyptian society.

Spreading various methods of protection, including legal, awareness-based, educational, and rehabilitative approaches.
At the end of the seminar, a discussion session was held where students posed their questions, which were thoroughly answered.
The event concluded with commemorative photo sessions and the end of the seminar activities.
The training workshop was wrapped up with a paper-based questionnaire to assess the participants' benefits from the workshop, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and determining topics to be addressed in future training workshops.
