The Volunteer House, in cooperation with the General Administration of Environmental Projects at the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector of Mansoura University, organized an awareness seminar titled “Don’t Try” to combat addiction, held
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the event was organized by the Volunteer House at Mansoura University, in cooperation with the General Administration of Environmental Projects led by Eng. Sherif Fawzy and his team, and the Faculty of Pharmacy, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Manal Eid, Dean of the Faculty, and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hany Qenawy, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development. The seminar was supervised by Prof. Dr. Sahar Abdel Aziz El-Dekrory, General Supervisor of the Volunteer House and Preventive Programs of the Addiction Control Fund at Mansoura University.
Prof. Dr. Sahar El-Dekrory spoke about the concept and types of addiction, the harms of addictive substances, the misuse of medications and stimulants, withdrawal symptoms, and the dangers of male hormones used in gyms. She also discussed the official treatment channels for addiction recovery and smoking cessation, emphasizing the important role of sports in combating and preventing addiction.
Dr. Belal Shaaban, General Supervisor of the Preventive Programs of the Addiction and Abuse Control Fund in Dakahlia Governorate and the Fund’s Supervisor at the Volunteer House, discussed the hotline of the Addiction and Abuse Control and Treatment Fund, stressing the confidentiality of patients’ data and that treatment is free of charge. He also addressed the social and legal consequences of addiction.
Mr. Islam El-Beshlawy, Head of the Addiction Control Unit in Dakahlia Governorate, also spoke about the Fund’s hotline and official treatment channels, as well as the dangers of passive smoking and electronic cigarettes.
The seminar concluded with a talk by Dr. Sara Khairat, Lecturer of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts, who discussed the social impacts of addiction, the factors leading to substance abuse, and methods of early detection of addiction cases.
