Promoting the Culture of Occupational Safety and Health at the Faculty of Science - Mansoura University, Monday, December 16, 2024

As part of the activities of His Excellency the President’s initiative "A New Beginning for Building the Egyptian Citizen," and the efforts of the prestigious Mansoura University, represented by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, specifically the Occupational Safety and Health and Work Environment Security Department, in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, to spread the culture of occupational safety and health and enhance the skills of workers in this field, the event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim Mohamed, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gabran, Minister of Labor, with the leadership of Prof. Dr. Osama Ibrahim El-Ayan, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fathi Abu El-Nour, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Counselor Ahmed Mohamed Ragaa, Assistant Minister of Labor for Dakahlia Governorate. The event was organized and coordinated by Dr. Amani Mohamed Ramez, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health and Work Environment Security Committee at the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Shadi Mohamed El-Dafrawy, Director of the Crisis Unit at the Faculty, Dr. Aboulfotouh Hassan Aboulfotouh, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health and Work Environment Security Department at the University and Deputy Director of the Public Safety and Occupational Health Service Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, represented by Mr. Counselor Ahmed Mohamed Ragaa, Assistant Minister of Labor for Dakahlia Governorate, and Mrs. Chemist Amal Abdel Latif Ghanem, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Labor, Dakahlia Governorate. The event took place on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the hall named after Prof. Dr. Ahmed Amin Hamza at the Faculty of Science.

After the national anthem and a blessed recitation of the Qur'an by Mr. Chemist Magdy Zaghloul Awda from the Safety Department in the governorate, and welcoming speeches from Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fathi Abu El-Nour, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Osama Ibrahim El-Ayan, Dean of the Faculty, and Mr. Counselor Ahmed Mohamed Ragaa, Assistant Minister of Labor for Dakahlia Governorate, several lectures were presented to raise awareness, develop skills, and enrich the culture of occupational safety and health and work environment security for the university staff. More than 200 attendees participated in the lectures, which covered a wide range of topics.

The first lecture, titled "Civil Protection Requirements in Educational and Medical Establishments," was presented by Dr. Aboulfotouh Hassan Aboulfotouh, where he discussed the legal requirements of occupational safety and health and work environment security in any institution. He highlighted the roles of the relevant authorities, including the ones with judicial inspection powers, and explained the requirements for fire safety systems, escape routes, emergency lighting, electrical systems, storage conditions, construction recommendations, ventilation, smoke extraction systems, and the need for safety officers and emergency plans.

The second lecture, titled "Management of Hazardous Waste and Materials," was presented by Prof. Dr. Dalia El-Sayed Ahmed El-Atrebi, Director of the Public Safety and Occupational Health Service Center, who covered the definitions and management of hazardous waste from source to safe disposal, including transportation, shredding, incineration, and burial.

The third lecture, titled "Occupational Safety and Health Requirements in Laboratories," was delivered by Mr. Chemist Hassan Ali Ahmed Hegazi, an occupational safety and health consultant.

The fourth lecture, titled "First Aid for Laboratory Hazard Cases," was presented by Dr. Afnan Atteya Ibrahim Mohamed, a Critical Care and Emergency Nursing Lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing.

The final lecture, titled "Occupational Safety and Health and Work Environment Security: Concepts and History," was delivered by Mr. Chemist Alaa El-Din Ahmed Atteya, an occupational safety and health consultant and former Minister of Labor Advisor for Awareness and Training.

Finally, the Faculty administration honored the distinguished guests from the Ministry of Labor and the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the university, concluding with a closing speech from the Faculty administration.
