Concluding the Activities of the First Engineering Symposium 2020, Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University
The activities of the First Engineering Symposium 2020 which took place in
the Faculty of Engineering were concluded on 24 th February. The symposium was
held under the auspicious of Prof./ Ashraf Mohammed Abd El-Bassit, President
of Mansoura University and Prof./ Mahmoud Mohammed El-Melegi, Mansoura
University Vice-President for Community Service and Environmental Development
Affairs and the supervision of Prof./ Mohammed Abd EL-Azeem, Dean of the
Faculty of Engineering on the 23 rd and 24 th of February.
Prof. Abd EL-Azeem stated that 150 students in the faculty were trained on
communication skills and participated in organizing the event, receiving the
guests, and working with 70 members of staff and faculty personnel to arrange
for the event. Two hundred projects prepared by the students of the faculty of
engineering from different governorates were presented. The symposium was
attended by representatives of 25 companies. He added that some of the projects
presented were related to different industries. Some of these projects, he
explained, need to be further developed to address social problems. He
recommended that these projects, after modification, be presented in
subsequent engineering symposia.
Prof. Aabd Nasr stated that the symposium contributes to narrowing the
gap between graduates and the labor market as well as between scientific
research and the needs of the society. In this way, it will achieve its main aim of
developing students’ skills. It is worth- mentioning that the symposium was held
in accordance with the recommendation of the Advisory Industrial Council which
is made up of representatives of companies dealing with the different
specializations in the company. The rationale for holding the symposium, he
explained, is that the graduates of the faculty of engineering generally lack the
requirements imposed by the labor market. Hence the faculty administration
decided to reconsider the link between the academic programs offered and the
labor market. Therefore, it organized such an event to achieve this aim.
The symposium included 200 students projects, 80 robot projects, 50
construction projects, 55 posters for academic research, and 6 formulae of racing
cars, 4 by faculty of engineering Mansoura university, 1 from Alexandria university
and one from Cairo university.
The event included 8 different contests, 33 robot competitions, 4 programming
competitions and 1 sport competition.
