Mansoura University Studies the Possibility of Establishing an AI Center in Collaboration with the Ministry of Communications
Dr. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications, Prof. Ashraf Abdel Basset, Mansoura University President, and Dr. Ayman Mokhtar, Governor of Daqahlia, had a meeting with a team from Mansoura
University and a delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologyon February 6th, 2020. Prof. Mahmoud El-Melegy – Mansoura University Vice President of Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Azim - Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mohamed Al-Husseini, Dr. Mohamed Handousa and Dr. Islam Reda at the Faculty of Computers and Information, Dr. Ahmed El-Naqib and Dr. Duaa Adel, Faculty of Engineering, were among Mansoura University AI team that met with the minister of Communications. The meeting discussed the different ways of collaboration in establishing a joint center for artificial intelligence at Mansoura University. This center is supposed to be to be part of Egypt's strategy to shift towards the use of AI applications in various fields to serve society and citizens as well as raising up the awareness of university students and young people with regard to artificial intelligence as a concept and its applications. During the meeting, the Mansoura University team presented the technological capabilities possessed by the university in this direction as well as the manpower that could qualify it to be a regional center in the field of artificial intelligence. The delegation of the Ministry of Communications also presented artificial intelligence projects that they currently have in the ministry including medical and agricultural projects and projects related to the treatment of natural languages. The Minister of Communications extended an invitation to the Mansoura University team to visit the executive headquarters of these projects. He also praised the distinguished level of Mansoura University in the field of technology and digital transformation.
