Concluding the Medical, Veterinarian, and Agricultural Activities of “Welfare Bridges Convoy 5” in South Sinai
The activities of the “ Welfare Bridges Convoy 5” in South Sinai which had been organized by Mansoura University in St. Katherin and Newibaa from 1 to 5 September were concluded today.
The convoy comprised a number of distinguished experts in the medical, veterinarian and agricultural fields under the auspicious of Prof. Ashraf Abd El- Basset President of the University and the directorship of Prof. Mahmoud Mohammed El- Meligy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The activities of the Convoy included delivering cultural and awareness raising lectures on first aid, hazards of smoking, importance of personal cleanliness and Hygiene for children and monthly self- administered breast examination. The lectures aimed at informing citizens about diabetes, hypertension and the importance of healthy, balanced nutrition for all groups. Prof. El- Meligy expressed his happiness at the success of the convoy activities which were attended by a large number of citizens in both cities and from neighboring areas. He stated that during the convoy 1252 patients were examined and that the total number of the patients examined in both cities and their vicinity reached 2397 in different medical fields between2-5 September. In addition, 36 cases were referred to Mansoura University Hospitals for further investigations, surgical intervention and free provision of medications.
He also stated that the convoy offered veterinary services on visiting a number of valleys and villages where 3400 sheep, 2150 birds 400 camels, 300 pairs of pigeons were examined and treated for free. Advice and instructions were given concerning vaccinations in the Veterinary Unit. Members of the convoy visited different farms to discuss different problems and to inform farmers as to suitable means of treatment and prevention.
Prof. Meligy highly commended the members of the convoy- Staff members, doctors, pharmacists, nurses and administrators- for their excellent performance and praised their efforts during their stay in South Sinai. He pointed out that Mansoura University is keen on adopting and reinforcing the Presidential Initiatives. It is also concerned with community service and seeks to dedicate all its potential for providing Health Care Services to cities and villages throughout Egypt particularly in Border Governorates. Prof. El-Meligy thanked Marshal Khaled Fouda Governor of South Sinai and Dr. Khaled Abu Hashim, Director of the Technical Office in South Sinai Health Directorate and all the personnel in charge for their support of the convoy while in the Governorate.
