Report of a field visit to a home for the elderly:
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President of the University for Community Service, Environmental Development and Care of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Jaidi, Dean of the College of Arts, and Prof. Dr. Suhair Waheed, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development, supervised and implemented by Dr. Rania Abdel Maqsoud, teacher in the Sociology Department..
The Community Service and Environmental Development Committee at the College of Arts made a field visit to Dar Al Amal for Elderly Care (Al Amal Specialized Clinics)
Meetings were held with those in charge of the home, Ms. Saadia Abdel Azim Al-Ashry, director of the home, and Ms. Magda Al-Sayed, supervisor of the home, to discuss the social and psychological conditions of its residents.
In meetings with the residents of the home, and by talking to them, we found:
- They need psychological support
- Community integration
- It is possible to host them to spend an entertainment day at the Nile Club
It is possible for students of the Department of Sociology and Psychology to use this type of role to conduct academic social research that contributes to helping these people and developing the place as well.
- Spreading community awareness among young people about the importance of honoring one’s parents by taking care of them at these age stages.
- It is possible to direct medical convoys from the university (Faculty of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing) to provide medical services to homes for the elderly in the governorate..
-The contribution of the Department of Psychology and the Department of Sociology in finding psychological and social solutions for these people.
