Workshop on “Crisis and Risk Management in Hospitals and Medical Facilities” Wednesday, March 28, 2024

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater - President of Mansoura University, and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim - Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs in cooperation with the General Administration of Strategic Management at Mansoura University,
A workshop entitled (Crisis and Risk Management in Hospitals and Medical Facilities) was held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
In the presence of Prof. Dr. El-Shaarawy Kamal - Executive Director of Hospitals and Medical Centers at Mansoura University. The directors, deputies and secretaries of hospitals and medical centers at Mansoura University, directors of units and members of the committees of the crisis and disaster management and risk reduction teams and the occupational safety and health committees in the hospitals participated in the workshop.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim explained that crises that occur outside the walls of hospitals in the external community flow inside hospitals, so hospitals must be a place free of crises, and able to manage and deal with them according to proactive strategic plans that achieve health quality. Hence, Mansoura University was keen on the importance of adopting an integrated crisis and risk management policy that works to establish scientific methodology before and during dealing with crises, and to present it as a leading model to be emulated at the national and international levels.
The workshop aims to introduce the mechanisms for developing a smart plan to confront crises and risks in medical facilities, based on identifying the causes of crises, evaluating them, and means of predicting them, which contributes to avoiding crises and reducing their negative consequences, and how to safely deal with risks and the art of managing them.
Mr. Prof. Dr. Al-Shaarawi Kamal, Executive Director of Hospitals and Medical Centers at Mansoura University, indicated that integration is taking place between the various departments in order to qualify the medical centers and hospitals of Mansoura University in cooperation with the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control to obtain accreditation in various health sectors in accordance with the national quality standards issued by the Authority. Internationally accredited by ESCWA.
The workshop activities included a discussion by Dr. Azza Muhammad Al-Khamisi, Director General of Strategic Management at the University, introduced the basic concepts in the field of crisis and disaster management and risk reduction, explained how to prepare the risk matrix, defined the types of risks and how to identify them, mechanisms for assessing different types of risks and procedures for dealing with them, as well as a presentation of risk record models.
The attendees praised the importance of the workshop activities, which concluded with a set of recommendations, including that Mansoura University’s strategy for managing crises and risks is an organizational culture that supports the readiness and readiness of hospitals for potential crises and the ability to manage them, and that it is necessary to hold advanced specialized courses to develop the skills of human cadres in crisis management. And risks, as well as in qualifying health facilities for accreditation according to a scientific and practical program and method.
The workshop also concluded that it is planned for the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector to coordinate effectively with all concerned parties to provide a safe environment and health quality standards, and to measure and follow up progress in this regard, within the framework of promoting sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
