Community Service and Environmental Development Sector Participation at the Cairo International Book Fair
Under the patronage of Prof. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Sahar Tawfik Naseem, Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education and Chair of the Community Awareness Committee, a delegation from the Community Awareness Committee—comprised of students from the Faculty of Early Childhood Education—participated in the Cairo International Book Fair.
Supervised by Dr. Samah Talaat Ahmed Abu Zaid, Lecturer in Child Mental Health and Coordinator of Convoys and External Activities at the Faculty, the delegation organized cultural, artistic, and physical activities within the Children's Activity Pavilion of Egypt’s Public Libraries. The activities reached various locations within the fair, engaging more than 100 children of different ages from various institutions, including Al-Azhar and private schools, as well as children with disabilities (visually impaired, intellectually challenged). The initiative received overwhelming appreciation from organizers, parents, and children, who expressed their happiness and requested the delegation’s presence again in the future.
The activities were divided into several sections:
🔹 Storytelling Corner (Culture & Science)
Children learned about planet Earth, the solar system, world continents, and environmental conservation (specifically water preservation) through the book The Long Journey of Water. A storytelling workshop was conducted using puppet theater and stick puppets under the theme Once Upon a Time. The session encouraged children to express emotions, role-play characters, and improvise their own stories, stimulating their imagination and creativity.
🔹 Art Activities Corner
This section included free coloring, painting 3D models, and creating artwork using printing techniques. A special workshop titled The Little Potter allowed children to shape different figures using clay, enhancing their creativity and motor skills.
🔹 Educational & Physical Games Corner
A variety of games were introduced to develop children's thinking, attention, memory, and concentration skills. Additionally, interactive movement games were organized, allowing children and their families to engage in a joyful and entertaining atmosphere.
🔹 Photography & Souvenir Corner
Children created their own customized bookmarks, adding personal artistic touches while learning about their importance in encouraging reading. They also had the opportunity to take memorable photos using cartoon masks with their families, making the experience even more delightful.
The event was filled with positive emotions for both the student delegation and the participating children and families, creating a meaningful and enriching experience for all involved.
