Prof. Dr. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President of Mansoura University for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Supervisor of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, inaugurated the Orphan’s Day activities organized by the university in cooperation with the Dakahlia Directorate of Social Solidarity, led by Dr. Magda Galala, Undersecretary of the Ministry. The event was held at El Nile Club, as part of the university’s commitment to activating its community and humanitarian role.

The event was attended by Dr. Abdelrahman Mujahid, Director of El Nile Club; Dr. Dalia El-Atreby, Member of the Senate; and Dr. Amani Al-Abbas, a fellow at the Children’s Hospital, along with several representatives of civil society institutions, including Ms. Fatma Shadi, representative of the Board of Trustees of Beit Al-Ataa Foundation, and Mr. Mohamed El-Qassaby, Chairman of Al-Hoda Association.

The activities included a variety of recreational, educational, and interactive events aimed at bringing joy to the children, enhancing their social integration, as well as organizing artistic performances and distributing gifts.

In a press statement, Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, emphasized that organizing such events stems from the university’s belief in its fundamental role in serving society and its commitment to supporting orphaned children and providing comprehensive care. He noted that their care is a humanitarian duty and a social responsibility that reflects the values of solidarity and compassion upon which Egyptian society is built.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Tarek Ghalwash welcomed the attendees and participating children, conveying the greetings of the university president, and reaffirming his commitment to sharing this occasion with the children. He stated that Orphan’s Day carries profound humanitarian messages, emphasizing that an orphan is not only someone who has lost a father or mother, but anyone who has lost support. He affirmed that Mansoura University serves as a source of support for all children who have lost their caregivers.

He also explained that organizing such events is part of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector’s plan to implement impactful activities aimed at supporting children psychologically and socially, and strengthening values of solidarity and cooperation by providing a positive environment that brings happiness to their faces.

He added that the progress of nations is not measured only by urban development, but also by how well they care for the most vulnerable groups and support those in need, including orphans, people with disabilities, and the elderly, considering this a true indicator of societal advancement.

He further noted that orphanhood is not a weakness but can be a strong motivation for success, citing that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born an orphan, and emphasizing that many orphans possess strong determination that enables them to succeed and become inspiring role models in society.

In the same context, Dr. Abdelrahman Mujahid, Director of El Nile Club, stated that hosting such events is not merely about organizing a recreational day, but rather reflects full commitment to the directives of the Egyptian state and its policies supporting priority care groups. He noted that El Nile Club at Mansoura University aims to serve as a platform supporting community and humanitarian activities.

He added that organizing such events reflects integration between state institutions and the university in implementing initiatives aimed at supporting children psychologically and socially, and enhancing their sense of care and attention.

Representatives of participating organizations affirmed that the event reflects coordination between the university and civil society institutions to support orphaned children, strengthen solidarity values, and provide a supportive environment that helps their social and psychological integration.

The event also included honoring several models of community work supporters in recognition of their contributions to community activities and their role in serving priority care groups.

The Orphan’s Day event is part of the activities of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Mansoura University, within the framework of the university’s strategy to maximize its societal impact, expand partnerships with state and civil society institutions, and support priority care groups in a way that ensures sustainable community benefit.
