Conducting a Simulation Experiment of Safe Evacuation and Firefighting at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Mansoura University

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Mansoura University carried out today, Wednesday, June 8, a simulation experiment for firefighting and safe evacuation at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Under the auspices of Prof. Ashraf Abdel Basset - President of Mansoura University, Prof. Mahmoud El Meligy - Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Manal Eid - Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and in cooperation with the Administration of Civil Protection in Dakahlia, with the aim of training the faculty’s staff on the correct mechanism to deal with an emergency and apply it in practice.

The experiment was carried out by a team from the Administration of Civil Protection in Dakahlia under the supervision of Major General/ Sherif El-Nahhas - Director of the Civil Protection Administration in Dakahlia, Lt. Col. Yasser Al-Bardawili - Undersecretary of the Civil Protection Administration, and Eng. Rasha El-Sayed - Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration at the university. The simulation started by making a call from the college administration about a fire, followed by the implementation of firefighting procedures by pushing two firefighting vehicles, then the building was evacuated by following the indicative signs to reach the safe assembly points, and the emergency team was called from the fire units, rapid rescue and ambulance units to carry out the rescue operation of some workers trapped in the upper floors using rescue equipment and escalators of the Civil Defense to face possible emergencies.

It is worth mentioning that the implementation of the simulation was preceded by several ongoing trainings for the faculty's staff on how to confront fires, follow instructions during fires, and how to communicate with emergency teams. The experiment aimed to conduct a real simulation of firefighting, evacuation of personnel in emergency situations and in order to raise the degree of readiness of building workers to face possible emergencies by raising their awareness, preventing stampedes and preserving lives in accordance with the evacuation plan prepared in advance by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the community service and environmental development sector.
