Mansoura University Celebrates The International Day of the Blind.
In an unprecedented event, Mansoura University celebrated The International Day of the Blind on October 15th, 2014. This event was celebrated for the first time on October 15th, 1964 in U.S.A. under the name of White Cane Safety Day. This name was selected in memory of photographer, James Biggs, who lost his eyesight in 1921 and in order to manage this plight, he devised a long white stick that offered safe walking for the blind.
The University celebrated that day under the name of The International Day of the Blind as this name goes in conformity with our culture more than the American on due to the fact that the concept of the white cane is not widespread in our culture. The celebration was attended by fifty students from Al-Nour School for Blind, and fifteen blind students from Mansoura University.
The celebration included a performance of the National Anthem by the students of Al.Nour school followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran. After that there were several artistic performances by the school and university students. The celebration was concluded happily with a promise of annual repetition by the Sector of Community Service and Environment Development.
