A workshop entitled “Carbon Literacy” at Mansoura University

Within the framework of the community and awareness role of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Mansoura University and within the global celebration of Environment Day.
Today, Monday, 6/10/2024, the General Administration of Environmental Projects, in cooperation with the College of Engineering, organized a workshop entitled “Eradication of Carbon Literacy” under the slogan “Zero Carbon” in the hall of Prof. Dr. Magdy Abu Rayan, College of Engineering.
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Khater - President of Mansoura University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Attia - Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim - Vice President of the University for Community Service Affairs, Prof. Dr. Tarek Ghaloush - Vice President President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
With the participation of 188 participants representing 12 colleges, 8 medical centers and hospitals, and 8 public administrations.
In the presence of Mrs. Prof. Dr. Sahar Naseem, Dean of the College of Early Childhood Education, Mrs. Prof. Mona El-Dakrouri - Acting Dean of the College of Commerce, Prof. Dr. El-Shaarawy Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals and Centers, and the deputies, faculty members, workers, and students.
Prof. Dr. El-Shaarawy Kamal spoke about the high carbon levels in the medical field in general and the work to transform transportation within hospitals by electric buses and other challenges. He thanked the organizers of the event and the university leaders.
During his speech, Dr. Yasser Al-Jamal - Environmental Affairs Agency expressed the agency’s keenness to cooperate with the university in various fields.
During his speech, Dr. Mustafa Amin - Director General of the General Administration of Environmental Projects welcomed the attendees and conveyed the greetings of the university’s leadership to them, and stressed the keenness of the community service sector to provide all awareness, medical and community activities to the university’s employees.
Dr. Sonia Sami Tolba - General Administration of Environmental Projects and researcher in chemistry, presented the concept of the carbon footprint, methods of calculating it and how to reduce it, and the practices that must be followed to avoid the risks of a high carbon footprint and reduce its effects.
Prof. Dr. Musaad Salama - Vice Dean of the College of Arts for Postgraduate Studies and Research discussed the mutual relationships between humans, the carbon footprint, and climate.
He stressed the state’s keenness to implement international agreements in this regard and called for the implementation of an initiative with the General Administration of Environmental Projects in the Community Service Sector entitled “The University’s Strategy to Reduce the University’s Carbon Rate.”
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawqi Abu Laila - Professor of Architecture and Head of the Architectural Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, talked about how the carbon footprint can affect the climate and the mechanism for reducing it. He also talked about the process of sustainable construction and sustainability in general. He also talked about strategies for reducing the carbon footprint in the building industry.
