Dr. Ghada Al-Qunaishi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service Affairs for Environmental Development and the Vice Deans of the Colleges, Dr. Mustafa Amin, Director General of the Environmental Projects Department

The General Administration of Environmental Projects, in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Physical Education, organized an initiative entitled “Prevention is Better than Cure” to introduce diabetes, its complications and methods of prevention on Tuesday 8/27/2024, with the participation of a number of faculty members, employees and students representing colleges, hospitals, medical centers, general administrations and the Military Education Department at the university, in the presence of Ms. Prof. Dr. Ghada Al-Qunaishi - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Dr. Hanan Al-Satouhi Gawish - Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine
, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ziyada - Professor of Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Physical Education
, Asst. Prof. Dr. Rania Bahriz - Assistant Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine,
The initiative included a medical examination (internal medicine - dermatology - vision and examination of the fundus of the eye) in addition to blood sugar and Hemoglobin, for a number exceeding 243 cases, and 4 were transferred to the Internal Medicine Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Ghada Al-Qunaishi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, spoke about the role of the community service sector at the university in awareness, the most important of which is health awareness, and thanked the university leadership and the General Administration of Environmental Projects.
She also spoke to Ms. Prof. Dr. Hanan Gawish, Professor of Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine, about diabetes, its development and symptoms, the methods used in treatment, and the presence of medical problems associated with diabetes patients such as (eye - kidney - nerve inflammation and diabetic foot) and the danger of smoking with diabetes. She also spoke about ways to care for a diabetic patient.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ziada, Professor of Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Physical Education, also discussed sports in treating diabetes and the normal hemoglobin rates for a healthy person that are necessary to transport oxygen. He spoke about the size of the heart for athletes and others and the amount of blood that the heart pumps to the body daily and the importance of sports for public health.

Dr. Rania Bahriz - Assistant Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine - on the definition of diabetes and its relationship to obesity, and on the advice that a diabetic patient should follow to control his blood sugar level, such as eating healthy food and avoiding hydrogenated oils and foods outside the home, and on the nutritional guidelines that a diabetic patient should follow when feeling tired.
