Veterinary convoy in Al-Jazirah village, Al-Manzala Center, Dakahlia Governorate, Monday, September 9, 2024

Under the generous patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, and with the direct support of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Maha Abdo Mohamed Abdo Al-Ashmawy, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gabr El-Sayed Gabr, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Mansoura University organized a comprehensive veterinary convoy in Al-Jazirah village, Dakahlia Governorate. This distinguished initiative came on Monday, September 9, 2024, in celebration of Farmer's Day, as part of the university's efforts to enhance veterinary and environmental services in rural areas.

Objectives of the Veterinary Convoy:
The veterinary convoy aims to achieve a set of objectives that focus on providing comprehensive veterinary care and enhancing environmental and agricultural awareness in the Egyptian countryside. These objectives include:

Providing health care for animals: medical examination of various animals owned by locals and providing appropriate treatments for the disease cases that have been detected.

Veterinary Awareness and Agricultural Guidance: Providing awareness lectures and workshops for villagers on how to maintain animal health and prevent common diseases affecting livestock. Focus was also placed on best practices in nutrition and veterinary care with the aim of improving livestock productivity.

Supporting Sustainable Development: This convoy comes within a broader vision that seeks to support rural development and enhance the capabilities of small farmers and breeders by maintaining the health of livestock, which is a major source of income for them.

Participating parties in the convoy:
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine cooperated with a number of government agencies and local institutions to ensure the success of the convoy and provide comprehensive and integrated services. This included:

Dakahlia Veterinary Medicine Directorate: which contributed experts and veterinarians with high experience in providing medical examinations and veterinary treatments.
Dakahlia Veterinary Syndicate: which in turn participated in supporting efforts to provide free veterinary medical services.
Mansoura Animal Health Research Institute: which provided scientific and research support to the convoy, especially in the field of disease analysis.
Burke Charity Hospital: The leading hospital in providing free veterinary services, which contributed effectively to providing the necessary treatments during the caravan.

The Central Secretariat for Agriculture and Irrigation of the Future of the Nation Party in Dakahlia Governorate: Which provided logistical support and contributed to organizing the event and raising awareness among the residents of the importance of veterinary care.

Services provided during the caravan:

The caravan provided a range of services targeting various categories of livestock in Al-Jazirah village:

Comprehensive medical examination: on cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, and even domestic animals. The animals were examined for parasitic, digestive, skin diseases, and other health problems.

Free treatment: Veterinary medicines and necessary treatments were distributed to the animals whose condition was diagnosed during the caravan.

Environmental and agricultural guidance: Advice was provided to the residents on how to improve the management of their farms and pens with the aim of enhancing animal health and reducing the incidence of infectious diseases.

The convoy was distinguished by the presence of a number of prominent figures who gave the event great importance, including:

His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture, who praised the efforts of Mansoura University and its effective role in supporting the local community.
Major General Tarek Marzouk, Governor of Dakahlia, who praised the fruitful cooperation between the university and various executive bodies in the governorate.
Major General Hesham Al-Hosary, Chairman of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee in the House of Representatives, who pointed out the importance of such convoys in promoting sustainable development in rural areas.

The people of Al-Jazirah village showed great hospitality and warm welcome to the veterinary convoy, as they greatly benefited from the services provided. The people expressed their gratitude to all participants in this convoy, stressing its important role in improving the health of their animals, which are the backbone of economic life in the village.

These activities also contributed to enhancing community awareness of the importance of veterinary care, as the convoy presented a model to be emulated in how to enhance communication between universities and the local community in order to achieve sustainable development.
