Meeting of the University Literacy Team and the General Authority for Adult Education to convert paper documents and curricula into electronic format, Tuesday, September 10, 2024
An important meeting was held between the literacy team at Mansoura University and the General Authority for Adult Education, headed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim - Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The meeting was attended by prominent academic and administrative figures from both institutions. Among the attendees were Prof. Dr. Amani Ghobour - Professor of Fundamentals of Education at the Faculty of Specific Education, Prof. Dr. Asmaa El-Hadi - Professor of Fundamentals of Education at the Faculty of Education and Director of the Literacy and Adult Education Center at the University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amr Gabr - Coordinator of Community Service Sector Activities, Mr. Mohamed Salem - Director of the Adult Education Branch in Dakahlia, Major General Engineer/ Raed Ali Heikal - Head of the General Office of the Adult Education Authority, Eng. Manal Mahmoud - Director General of Educational Services at the Authority, in addition to a number of officials and experts specialized in the field of adult education, including Ms. Siham Ahmed - Education Specialist, Mr. Ahmed Lotfy - Information Center, Dakahlia Branch, Ms. Amani Nabeel - Senior Education Specialist, Ms. Sherine Mahmoud El-Sayed - Technical Officer at the Adult Education Branch, and Ms. Jihan El-Sayed - Director General of Public Relations at the Adult Education Branch.
The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Azim with a congratulatory speech, in which he expressed his pride and happiness at Mansoura University winning first place and winning the UNESCO International Competition. This achievement reflects the university’s continuous efforts in the field of literacy and community development, and confirms its ongoing commitment to supporting adult education initiatives.
The meeting then moved on to discuss important issues related to digital transformation in the field of adult education, highlighting the urgent need to update literacy curricula and convert them into digital curricula. It was suggested to develop digital educational programs that suit the target groups, whether on mobile phones or online, with the aim of facilitating learners’ access to educational resources.
The team also presented the previous work plan for the literacy project, where the achievements and challenges faced by the team were evaluated. After that, the next work plan was discussed, including the required logistical support, timetables for implementing future projects, in addition to the various coordination between the university and the General Authority for Adult Education.
The meeting stressed the need to address literacy in all its forms, not only in terms of reading and writing, but also digital, financial and health literacy, in order to enable individuals to keep pace with the requirements of the modern era. The attendees pointed out the importance of coordination and cooperation between all parties to ensure the success of these initiatives and achieve their goals.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to enhance cooperation between Mansoura University and the General Authority for Adult Education, with a focus on taking advantage of the available capabilities to achieve tangible progress in the field of literacy and adult education in Egypt, which would contribute to improving the standard of living of individuals and developing society in general.
