On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the Environmental Sector at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mansoura University, participated in a workshop on the use of natural alternatives in the agricultural and animal sectors to protect and treat livestock and poultry from diseases, in the presence of more than 200 veterinarians and agricultural engineers, representatives of various government agencies and civil society. And the private sector, in participation with the Animal Health Research Institute in Mansoura, in cooperation with the Veterinarians Syndicate in Dakahlia, and under the patronage of Major General Hisham Al-Hosary, Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Security Committee of the Egyptian Parliament and Secretary of the Central Agriculture Secretariat of the Mostaqbal Watan Party. The workshop dealt with natural alternatives as an alternative to treating animal, poultry and fish diseases and benefiting from them as a safe alternative. For chemical medicines, with the participation of experts from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Delta University, the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Dakahlia, the Directorate of Agriculture in Dakahlia, the Plant Protection Research Institute in Mansoura, and the Horticulture Research Institute in Mansoura.

For his part, Professor Dr. Mohamed Gabr, Professor of Pharmaceuticals and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mansoura University, reviewed the natural alternatives used in the livestock sector, explaining their positive effects on the quality of products of animal origin and the impact of drugs of chemical origin on the general health of animals and, consequently, on humans when using products of animal origin. His Excellency explained the volume of trading of medicines extracted from natural alternatives in the veterinary medicine market in Egypt, as well as the growth rates of the use of these products in the recent period.

Dr. Tariq Al-Lamai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Biocin Pharmaceutical Industries Factory, also gave a detailed presentation of the factory’s experience in producing antiparasitic drugs from natural origins, most of which are plant-based. He discussed with the audience the prescribed doses and how they affect the diseases used to treat them.

Then, a panel discussion took place on natural alternatives used in the agriculture and livestock sector, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Gabr, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mansoura University, Dr. Radwan Ammar, Secretary of the Agriculture Committee of the Mostaqbal Watan Party, Dakahlia Municipality, representing Major General Hisham Al-Hosary, and Dr. Al-Sayyid Al-Hasnain, Undersecretary and Director General of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate. In Dakahlia, Dr. Tariq Salah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in Dakahlia, Dr. Mohamed Mesbah, Technical Director of the Animal Health Research Institute in Mansoura, and Dr. Rana Ramadan, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Delta University.

During the workshop, Dr. Ihab Anwar, professor at the Agricultural Research Center, gave a lecture on natural pesticides of plant origin and praised the research effort in this regard. Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar, professor at the Agricultural Research Center, also presented methods of rooftop cultivation and its economic and nutritional importance to the farmer and the food producer.
