A meeting regarding planting 1,000 trees on the university campus as part of the “Hangmelha Initiative,” one of the presidential initiatives to plant 100,000,000 fruit trees within the governorates, Thursday, February 22, 2024

The 100 Million Trees Initiative is receiving presidential attention from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as part of the Egyptian state’s efforts in the climate change issue, coinciding with the 27th session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). The initiative aims to identify 9,900 sites in Throughout the governorates, the total area reaches 6,600 acres at the republic level, suitable for forming tree forests or gardens, and providing agricultural seedlings with irrigation networks. The initiative is based at the republic level, improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gases, achieving the maximum economic benefit from trees, and improving the public health of citizens.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim - Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development met on Thursday, February 22, 2024, with the officials of the Hangelha Foundation for Sustainable Development, in the presence of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Mohamed Attia Al-Bayoumi - Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shata - Dean. Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Metwally Abu Saree - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Engineer Muhammad Qabtan - on behalf of the institution and a group of faculty members and workers in the community service and environmental development sector, to discuss and study planting 1,000 fruit trees on the university campus.

His Excellency the Vice President of the University talked with the distinguished attendees about the social goals of the afforestation initiative and the types of fruit trees that are being planted, the returns of the initiative, the stages of implementing the initiative, the participating parties, the efforts of the Ministry of Environment, the scope of implementing the initiative, in continuation of the implementation of the mandates of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to continue... Planting the first phase of the “100 Million Trees” initiative in light of the efforts of the Egyptian state to confront the challenges and climate changes facing various countries of the world. Then it was agreed to form a committee headed by the Vice Dean of the College of Agriculture, with the committee to inspect all the green areas on the university campus and choose the appropriate ones to plant these trees. Fruitful crops and determining the required needs to ensure their cultivation in an appropriate manner that ensures their protection and continuity.
