"My Health in My School" Initiative Enhances Health and Legal Awareness for Students of Talkha Schools

As part of the "Bidaya" initiative to raise health awareness and support values among school students, and in implementation of the "My Health in My School" initiative for the 2024/2025 academic year, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Mansoura University organized an awareness visit for the students of Salah Salem School in Talkha on Wednesday, October 6, 2024.

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Shouma, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Mansoura University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ghada Al-Qanishi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Amal Al-Baqri, Supervisor of the Safe Women’s Unit, and Prof. Dr. Hayam Fathi, Director of the Safe Women’s Unit and Professor of Psychiatry, this visit was organized as part of the Faculty's ongoing efforts to support the health of young people and raise their awareness about public health and social issues.

Awareness Lecture on Diabetes

The day’s activities began with a lecture by Dr. Yasmin Atwa, Assistant Professor of Endocrinology and Diabetes, who addressed several important health topics, including the definition of diabetes, its various types, complications, and the importance of prevention. The lecture also covered the topic of "Diabetic Foot," raising awareness among students on how to prevent this common health issue among people with diabetes. Dr. Yasmin emphasized the importance of following a healthy diet to prevent diabetes and reduce its complications.

Awareness Seminar on Violence Against Women

In the second part of the program, Dr. Mohamed Mousa and Dr. Hossam Walid, interns at the Faculty of Medicine, conducted an educational seminar on "Violence Against Women," aimed at raising awareness among students about women's rights and the need to protect them in society. They discussed the various forms of violence against women, including physical, psychological, financial, cyber, and sexual violence, and explained the legal consequences of such acts.

Students were also introduced to the role of the Safe Women’s Unit and the services it provides for women affected by violence, along with information about the Women’s Complaints Office at the National Council for Women, which aims to offer support and assistance to women experiencing violence. The doctors also emphasized the criminalization of female circumcision and its legal penalties, highlighting the importance of educating students on the need to respect women's rights and support them in all aspects of life.

Gratitude and Appreciation

At the end of the activities, special thanks were extended to the school administration for their great cooperation in organizing this awareness visit, which aimed at increasing health and legal awareness among students and activating the university's community role in spreading human and health values.

This initiative is part of a series of activities organized by the Faculty of Medicine at Mansoura University to promote health and legal culture among youth and to reinforce social values among young people.
